He pulled the covers over them and kissed the top of her head softly.

She sighed. The mood was definitely lost now. "... Sorry." she muttered. "I just..." sigh. "Yeah."

"Yeah.. I know. It's okay."
She hadn't been quite that tolerant when he wasn't in the mood...
Oh, well. Another gentle kiss.

A small sniffle. "I... I just miss him so much." her bottom lip quivered just slightly.

"I know. It sucks when someone dies." And he knew - very well - there wasn't really anything he could say that helped.

Hic. Sniffle. Nod. And now she was crying properly.

And Minato just held her, a few stray tears dripping down his nose into her hair.

And she hid her head in his shoulder, which progressively got wetter.

Yeah, he didn't mind (old shirt anyway.) Just kept on stroking her hair.

It took quite some time, but... Finally, she hiccuped one final time, and brushed away the tears.

Minato looked down at her. "Sucks. I know." He gave a sad smile.

"Must've..." she sniffled. "Must've been even harder for you..." she muttered. Of course, it was still bloody awful to lose your boyfriend, but... Your mother... She couldn't even imagine it.

Minato stiffened, and his eyes got distant. "Ah.. it's very long ago," he breezed. "I.. I was just a kid. Yeah, it sucked, but I got over it." He smiled, except it never reached his eyes.

"Don't... Don't give me that." another sniffle, though her eyes had just a slightly hard edge now. "Don't lie to me. I can see it's not true."

"'Shina..." his voice faltered and got small and uncertain. "Please.. I.. I can't talk about her.."

She bit her lip, thought a little, then. "... If.... If I tell you about him..." she swallowed, ".... Will you try telling me about her?"

He shut his eyes and shook his head no. "I.. I can't, it.. it.. hurts."

"But... Doesn't it.... Help, just a little bit, every time you do talk about it? Cry about it?" she asked in a low voice. "I...." she sighed. "'Kashi told me it does... Though he only speaks of his mother and not his father..." She did know why he didn't talk about his father. It'd always ended in arguments when he did, as much as he hated the man, still.

"No," a pained voice that sounded like his throat was raw. Which it was. "It doesn't bring her back. Remembering her.. it.. only.. reminds me.. what I won't have back.."

"But. Uhm... Just... Remembering the time you did have with her, the good times... That you... Did have her... Can remember her... Isn't that good, too? Instead of not remembering at all? Then it'd... It'd be like she never existed, wouldn't it?"

"Yes. And that'd be easier." His eyes were still closed, but he'd started shaking.

"'Nato..." she sighed. "Don't say it like that. If... If it weren't for her, I doubt you'd be the one I'm so desperately in love with."

"I know. And not remembering her would.. would still be.. easier.. dammit," he swore and wiped a stray tear away.

"I... Thought so too, when I'd just lost him... But... Not anymore. I'm just glad I got to know him, y'know? You should be, too, that you at least knew your mother. Many others aren't that lucky."

"What if I'm not!?" he suddenly cried. "What if I'm just - just really - really MAD that she DIED and left me alone?!"
